The National Math Bee is a fun and exciting way to help students in grades 1-6 achieve extraordinary levels of speed and accuracy with their math skills. The National Math Bee is an online math tournament where students from grade 1-6 compete in any or all of the four basic math categories, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The program includes a real world interactive competition, culminating in a national level event held at a unique location each year.

The National Math Bee is correlated to both state and national academic standards including the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, No Child Left Behind, and others. The National Math Bee uses a combination of eLearning technology and children's natural desire to play, compete and participate to effectively hone math skills. Participants compete in person and online to develop skills and engage with concepts and skills.

In its first year over 6200 participants from 17 states competed in the National Math Bee tournament. The tournament consists of four different level of play: Classroom, Schoolwide, District, and State, all leading to the final event, the National Math Bee Championship. The Championship is held each year at the McWane Science Center a three story interactive science museum, which, like the National Math Bee, incorporates learning with fun.

The National Math Bee event which has already gained considerable media attention, gives schools and students the opportunity to compete for a variety of valuable prizes, supplied by corporate sponsors, including over $60,000 in scholarship offered by Virginia College Online.

The National Math Bee is powered by BatterUp, a research based math game developed by an actual classroom teacher. The software is the web- based version of a board game originally used in a classroom setting. In fact, its design has received national honors from the Network Professional Association for most innovative networking implementation. BatterUp is baseball themed with scores and rankings based on both the speed and accuracy of responses. It is simple to play. It is teacher friendly, classroom proven, and supports a broad range of ability levels from grades 1-6. It records, tracks and analyzes student achievements.

The National Math Bee is the first of its kind to offer this unique online learning experience to grades 1-6. In scientific research it has been shown without exception, every student group who used the software demonstrated a significant increase in their math skills. The bottom line is, the National Math Bee works. But don't just take our word for it...

"I think it is wonderful. I think it has given the kids just a tremendous opportunity to hone their math skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. They have gained a love of it. I have never seen my child run so quickly to the computer lab after school in an effort to see how many home runs they can obtain."
-Heather Grey, Parent

"In teaching your whole goal is to find a way to get your children to learn something and to be interested in it. This is not something you have to get them to do. This is something they want to do. It helps them improve. All the things you want the kids to do, you have it with BatterUp. They want to play, it helps them learn, and then they realize they are getting better. They do know that "I can do this, what I couldn't do before."
-Carolyn Hunter, Teacher

"I play it at school almost every day, and I just have a lot of fun with it. I play baseball myself and its just amazing."
-Hunter Pitts, Student
